Vicodin, Carisoprodol and HCV

by brklynmac, Aug 30, 2006 12:00AM
Can Vicodin and Carisoprodol be used 2 or 3 times weekly,in small amounts, by someone with HCV, without causing liver damage?

Sorry to hear your in pain, pal. Sounds like you have some type of a pulled muscle issue. Most drugs are assimilated by the liver or kidneys. If you have the need for something as strong as Vicodin, I'd ask the doctor to consider Vicoprofen instead. Hydrocodone is the narcotic in vicodin but the drug that does the most harm to the liver is the acetominophen not the narcotic in it.  Vicoprofen has ibuprofen instead of acetominophen, which is much milder on the liver, but delivers the same narcotic effect. I'm not certain but I believe that Carisoprodol uses both the liver and kidneys to move it thru our systems. Ask your doc about the safety of any of pain relievers or muscle relaxants while on tx. Good luck in getting thru the pain...   Keep killing those little critters....     Pauly

Some docs advise to take tylenol some docs to take ibuprofen some to take acetaminophen LOL

See if you can take straight hydrocodone without any of them...they DO make pills that have none of the "OTC" type pain meds.

Isn't that ironic, advising someone to TAKE the narcotics LOL why oh why oh WHY didn't I realize I had hep BEFORE I got sober?  ahhhh!

(Well I guess I wouldn't have been sober enough to EVER have gotten checked out anyways LOL)

My doctor switched me from vicodin to vicoprofen back when doctors were much more concerned with how tylenol affects the liver than they are today. The problem with NSAIDs like ibuprofen, aspirin, naproxen/naprosyn, oxyprosyn, etc. is that they can be causing micro-tears in your stomach lining, even if you're not feeling any pain. Like most things, I think moderation is the key to how you use any anti-inflamatory.

Sorry folks but the tread below was closed.  I have to tell Beagle how sorry I am.  I with the others really thought you had it licked.  Now I am scared that maybe I won't clear either. The only good thing you are stage 1.  I am stage 2-3 so I can't wait for the V-950.  SOmeone posted a day or earlier that they may be doing a non-responder trial this late fall or early spring.    I start my Tx on the 29th of Sept.  I am worried as he only has me on 800mg of Riba daily.  I think maybe I should be on 1000.  Oh well have to find that site to make sure and then plead my case.

Yes, me too,  I just wanted to tell you how very sorry I am about your discouraging news.  I know just how awful that is, having relapsed earlier on monotherapy.  Feels like the end of the world, but believe me, it isn't.   You'll eventually pick yourself up and give it another shot, and this one will get you over.  It's just a matter of time, and faith, and persistence.  So you hang in there.  Your doc talking protease inhibitors, by any chance?

TY to those who had the insight to request clarification of the threads rule for this forum.  I figured that it had changed once the number of threads increased.  Now, if we can condense the jokes to one thread until it fills at 50 slots, instead of opening one each time we have a joke, we can keep the forum more hcv focused. We did not need 4 or 5 joke threads a week.

Thanks Med Help for intervening.  All we have to do know is REMEMBER.  That should not be too hard to do, with all the brain fog due to meds, age, and menopause.
