Question Title: severe dysplasia during pregancy

I have just recently found out that I have severe dysplasia, and I am 11 weeks pregnant. My question is, is this going to affect my pregancy? Am I going to be able to deliver this baby naturally? And in cases o f severe dysplasia, what types of surgery is recommended? There is a history of cevical cancer in my family. Im am scared and worried .

Dear Stephanie:
Severe dysplasia, I am presuming, was diagnosed by a Pap Smear. The next step is a colposcopy (visualizing the cervix using a manifying system) to identify the areas of abnormal cells and do small, directed biopsies. This is a safe procedure that carries scant risk to the pregnancy. The degree of abnormality found in these biopsies of the very worst areas determine the next treatment steps.
Dysplasia can be followed without treatment because there is a transition time of years over which dysplasia worsens; cryotherapy; laser therapy; Leep (loope electrical excision procedure) are all possible recommendations.
Most women with dysplasia carry successfully and deliver vaginally.
