Question Title: Ligament Pains?????????

Forum: The Maternal and Child Health Forum
Topic: Pregnancy - Abnormal

I am 27 weeks pregnant and have experienced pain on the side of my uterus and now the pain has moved to the center of my belly button and around it. The belly button is starting to look bruised or something. I have never had this. But the pain is so bad that I can't stand up straight and hurts to walk and do anything. It has been going on for 3 days now nonstop. I am not sure if it is ligament pains or what? I thought ligament pains don't last 24 hours, just on and off. Has anyone else had this happen to them.

Dear Julie:
Pain that lasts continuously for 3 days and is disturbing activity warrants a visit to the physician. Bruising around the umbilicus suggests that there has been some irritation within the wall of the abdomen and less often inside the abdomen.
A simple explanation for all these symptoms is brusing in the muscles of the wall of the abdomen. This "pulled muscle" can occur without one being aware of how it happened. This can only be assured by a physical examination, a monitor or the uterus by ultrasound and evaluation of the baby by biophysical profile.
