Question Title: A quick question

Forum: The Maternal and Child Health Forum
Topic: Lactation

Dear Dr.,
It has been 2 years since I had a baby. I still have milk leaking from my breast. And on occasion I'll have a "let down". Is this normal?

Dear Gail:
About 30% of women who have been pregnant notice breast milk secretion at a future time. Nipple stimulation, including loose fitting clothing, no bra, no sports bra when exercising, sexual activity, all can exaggerate the secretion. Checking for the secretion is another common reason that it continues. Some medications (eg: hormonal contraception, antihypertensives, antidepressants) can contribute.
Wear a bra 24 hours a day and avoid any breast/nipple stimulation for 14 days. If secretion persists, medical evaluation for prolactin secretion problems and for local breast issues is appropriate.

Keywrods: postpartum breast secretion (galactorrhea)
