Question Title: hcg levels and progesterone

Forum: The Maternal and Child Health Forum
Topic: Pregnancy - Normal

I am 17 days pregnant from conception and i have been having a brownish/pinkish discharge for about a week now. At 11 dpo my hcg level was 64 and at day 16 my hcg level was 779. Is this kind of high? It has more than doubled every 2-3 days. Also i'm concerned about my progesterone level because they tested it at 11 dpo (11 days preg) and it was a 12. My dr. thinks anything above a 10 is o.k. but why the cramping and spotting then? I also have the EW discharge on the tissue with the spotting. Could that be from my mucus plug? Please answer soon.

Coral

Dear Coral:
hCG doubling every 2-3 days is the average: there is a wide range of normal around this, with the low side being an increase of 66% and the upside being an increase of 166%.
A luteal phase progesterone level >10 ng/ml is normal range.
Cramping is a symptom. The level of hormones does not explain or fail to explain cramping.
I do not understand the abbreviation EW discharge.
There is no "mucus plug" at this early stage of pregnancy. There is always mucus produced in the cervix and moisture produced in the vagina.
