Question Title: hooded cervix?

Forum: The Maternal and Child Health Forum
Topic: Pregnancy - Normal

My ob/gyn told me on my last visit, that I have a hooded cervix. I have never been told this by a previous ob/gyn. My husband and I are trying to have a baby. Will this cause infertility problems? Is it possible to get pregnant with a hooded cervix?

Dear Jody:
A "hooded cervix" describes a fold of the vagina that sits atop the cervix like a hood sits on the head. It can be a variation of normal. The best known association is between use of a hormone named diethystilbestrol (DES) during pregnancy and cervical hood in the resultant female children (often named DES daughters).
A cervical hood is not a contribution to infertility.
