Question Title: frequency of intercourse

Forum: The Maternal and Child Health Forum
Topic: Pregnancy - Normal

My husband and I are trying to conceive, but because I just went off the pill, I am having irregular cycles. This is making it hard to predict ovulation. I can figure it out down to a week, but not an exact date. I have heard that it is not good to have intercourse everyday because it depletes the man's sperm supply. Is that true? I'm wondering if we should only have intercourse every other day. What is the best way to time intercourse to achieve pregnancy?

Dear JC:
Intercourse every second day maximizes the efficiency to achieve pregnancy because sperm live in the fallopian tube and are capable of fertilizing eggs during at least 48 hours. A normal male can ejaculate every day without loss of fertility.
