Posted by hfhs.md.db on April 15, 1999 at 15:55:06 Topic Area: Pregnancy - AbnormalHow many cornual ectopic pregnancy are reported each year? What are the usual ramifications of such an ectopic? How do the symptoms present themselves? Are they difficult to diagnose?
2-3% of ectopic pregnancy develop within the interstitial part of the fallopian tube (the cornual part of the uterus). These can be difficult to diagnose since they often develop longer before symptoms than pregnancies in the tube. The pain tends to be much less specific and in the midline, rather than to one side like a tubal ectopic. Because of this, often these are not diagnosed until after rupture occurs; and almost invariably result in loss of the tube, and infrequently, the uterus.
