Uterine fibroids that cause a major alteration of the uterine cavity (submucous fibroids) are associated with miscarriage. When found, and no of explanation is discovered for miscarriage, recommendation to remove the fibroids is appropriate.
Lupron is a medication which has been available for 15 years and widely used for a decade to temporarily stop estrogen production (estrogen is the growth stimulus for the fibroids) and thereby allow the fibroids to shrink in size and be less vascular (less blood supply) to make the surgery easier.
Lupron therapy is safe. Recovery of menstrual cycles occurs within 3 months of stopping the medication. Fertility is not harmed.
