| . | Hello, I just found out I'm pregnant and am currently addicted to vicodin. I have already weaned myself down from about 20 vicodin ES a day to about 10-14 a day. I am planning if all goes well to continue my weaning. My question is have I already done harm to the baby? I know that if you're taking it when the baby is born, the baby can be addicted. But, I am not planning on taking it much longer. Maybe a month to fully wean off. I am just concerned that the damage has already been done. Does anyone know? This was a surprise pregnancy so I was certainly not planning on being an addicted mom! Please help!
Thank You,
Sunny |

Sunny--You need the advice of your doctor for this.
Did you know that 20 Vicodin ES delivers a toxic, potentially lethal dose of Tylenol to your liver? And you are STILL taking a potentially lethal dose at 10-14 a day?
One Vicodin ES contain 500 mg of Tylenol. You can safely have up to 4 grams a day of Tylenol for BRIEF periods of time...That is 8 pills a day. Even using 4 grams a day of Tylenol for prolonged periods of time has been shown to cause liver failure in some people. If anyone taking Tylenol or Tylenol containing products such as Vicodin or Percocet and drinks, the potential to destroy your liver increases dramatically.
And we haven't even broached on the subject of the hydrocodone in the Vicodin. It probably isn't the threat that the Tylenol is right now.
Sunny--seriously, you need to see a doctor and get help immediately. You need to have tests done to see how your liver is functioning. You also need help detoxing from the Vicodin. It isn't as easy as you might think to get off and stay off. You not only need medical attention at once, you need guidance and help emotionally and psychologically to figure out why you were abusing drugs, and how to get clean.
I am not preaching at all--I am extremely concerned for your well being for chronic over-ingestion of a potentially lethal drug--Tylenol. |

| . | Thank you Christie! I know about the effects of tylenol. I had a Liver function test in August and it was normal. I appreciatte your quick response. I just had no plans to become pregnant.... It has forced me to confront all the BS thats happening right now, which is good. I think this will finally be the chapter that ends my vicodin story.
From all I've read, the vicodin is not toxic, but the tylenol is.... God I just want this baby to be alright! I have an OB appt. on wed. this week.
Thanks again for your quick response!

Please come clean to your OB about it. I've seen lots of gals with Vicodin and Percocet addiction. It is tremendously hard to beat permanently. There are tons of services available, especially for pregnant women. Please don't think that just because you use, your baby will be taken away from you. It's the people who DON'T get help that are at the highest risk for that. It shows extreme maturity and good decision making skills to ask for help. So admit what's happening and ask for help to get off and stay off. DSS is always extremely willing to work with women who admit their problems. I've been an OB nurse for 27 some years--I know how it goes. Starting to seek help this early in pregnancy shows you are intelligent and willing to work hard on your problems...not just floundering around on your own and risk relapsing later.
Getting off it isn't so hard, it's the staying off that is the killer. Whatever problems you had that allowed you to become a drug user is still there, and will be there, lurking and waiting for a vulnerable time, unless you uncover it and face it head on.
And--while it's a good sign that your liver function tests were ok in August, your liver can crash in a heartbeat. Literally can fail overnight. You won't be in the clear until you are completely off of it for a while.
I wish you all the best in the world. Come back often if you need to talk. We're a great bunch of gals.

| Sorry to Hi-jack-Colton's birth story |
Well, ladies here I am finally! I emailed Angel to let you all know that Colton was born! Haven't had a chance to read through and catch up on posts, but thought I would share his story at least and if I am up to it, then catching up! :)
Sunday night (7th) my water started leaking. I figured I would just bring it up to OB at my morning appt since it didn't seem to be much. Well, it must have been more than I thought becuase when I went in Mon morn, he had very little fluid in there!I had apparently leaked all night long! Appt was at 9am and OB went out of exam room and came back in and said "Go straight to the hospital. We are taking him at 12:30." I was in shock!
When I got to the hospital, everything moved really quickly. My nurse was EXCELLENT (Christie, you have sucha wonderful job! I just loved all my nurses!!) She was extremely patient with me as I was understandably very anxious. The surgery started and within 11 min's, my little boy was born. Feeling him come out of me was the most amazing feeling in the world. But the epidural med's weren't working properly (rather than being numb, I felt a burning sensation) so after he came out and I got to see him, they put me to sleep for the remainder of the surgery.
As soon as they put him on the warming table, he peed!! LOL Right after I got to my recovery room, they brought him in to nurse and he knew what to do right away. He was rooting the second he got close to my breast and latched on as if he were an expert!
Having a little boy around is a new experience. We have had to master the art of changing his diaper quickly! He is such a cuddle bug, loving to be closely held and tightly wrapped. DH is LOVING him of course and being a HUGE help. He is always at my side offering to change a diaper or fix me a sandwich. He is also closely monitering my diet to be sure I am not feeding the baby "poison" (anything that will give him gas! LOL). HE is very interested in the whole nursing process and at first would try to help puch his face on my breast like he saw in the video at nursing class! LMAO It was too funny. Now he realizes the baby can do it himself, but he still likes to watch. I think he is enamored with the fact that my breasts have our baby's meals ready made when he is hungry!
Anyway, still a little sore, but moving around more and more every day. As for now, this little guy is hungry again! Be back again soon! |

I wish... I'm still here! My dr. said he will induce me Mon or Tue if I haven't delivered so I am keeping my fingers crossed for today. Also, I had my tooth looked at in an Emerg. Dental clinic, and I do need a root canal. Funny thing is, I haven't had any pain overnight or this am yet. Maybe I'm getting a little reprieve so I can deliver today!!!??? Officially 6 days overdue. Thanks for asking. Good Luck with your move. |

I am so happy for you, hopefully you can start to get back to normal just in time for Thanksgiving. Keep us up on how you and Colton are doing.
Take care and congrats again to you and your family..

| . | I do have another concern. Where were you getting prescriptions for the pills? That doctor needs to be reported to the AMA. |
