Just went back to work, sick infant, needed to vent

by Crritter, Jun 13, 2007 12:00AM
Hey gals, I'm sorry, I guess I just need to vent a little.  I was freaking out till I went back to work, but it went pretty smooth, the night shift was tough on me, but I think that working all day Father's Day will suck more.  Anyway, I was fine, little guy did great, even though he only went 2 days last week.  My 3 1/2 yr old came home just fine Friday, but by Friday night just mentioned once he didn't feel well and began puking.  No fever, no signs of illness, just complete surprise.  By Sunday afternoon he was doing better and had perked up, but around that time my little one began gagging and choking.  I posted yesterday that they thought he had the flu and it had intensified his acid reflux.  He was so dehydrated, would not eat and had not had a wet diaper for over 12 hours.  I was pretty stressed about him and I knew there was more to it than a little reflux or tummy bug.  We went back in yesterday and spent a majority of the day between the hospital and the Dr. office.  Poor little guy got RSV his first week at daycare at barely 10 weeks old.  His oxygen level dipped below 90 so they had to watch him closely for awhile but decided to let us go home, my first son had respitory problems young too so they must have figured we could handle it.  They also saw that the medication he was taking for acid reflux was not enough and added another one.  I had to call in for the week at my job since my DH can't get away from work, I feel awful sending my baby to daycare and getting him sick so young and bad about having to call in and let down my co-workers, who thankfully are way overstaffed.  As if it wasn't hard enough to go back to work.  Anyway, I'm gonna try to get a little rest now that the little guy is calmed down and finally sleepiong a little.  WE were up all night again.

Its strange to hear your story, my son (whom I was a stay at home mom with for 2 years) when I had an internship I put him in daycare the entire six weeks they kept calling me to come and get him because he was vomiting. Hope all works out for you! Best Luck!

The joys of being a mother.    Hope he feels better soon.

Thanks, he should be okay by next week he's still breathing very fast and labored, but at least he's hydrated again and I got a couple of smiles out of him.  Just wish he didn't have to get it so young.

Thanks gals, I kept him home starting that Monday, they think he got it Friday as he was not there last Thursday.  I did call our daycare provider right away Monday and told her what was going on and then again Tuesday after the diagnosis.  She was surprised nono of the other little ones are ill, but she said a few of the big ones have runny noses that she was assured are allergies.  I would bet that at least one of them has RSV as it looks like a cold in the bigger ones.  We are heading back to the Dr. for a follow up, but his breathing has been pretty bad all night so I'm a little nervous, his whole chest is starting to really heave in order to breath and it's so fast and labored.  I didn't want to go to the ER if I didn't need to expose him, so the last few hours have been rough, but he's calm now and resting in my lap.  I'll let you know how it goes.  I just want him to feel better and smile again.

Sorry you are having a rough patch....

Hopefully he will get better soon and you can get some sleep.

I am sure the daycare is up to snuff and it was just an unfortunate accident that he got ill.  I hope you informed them as the other parent's should have an eagle eye out.

I personally was always aggravated when people sent their kids to daycare or school or church when they were ill.  Thanks for sharing the germs!!  Good for you for keeping him home until he is well.
