ovulation test kits. Are they accurate?

by foz07, Jul 05, 2007 12:00AM
Hi,
I had a D&C nearly 3 months ago and have had 2 'normal' periods since, but the cycle length has been irregular with some abnormal spotting and cramping. This cycle I used an ovulation test kit to determine if / when I was ovulating. I got a positive result (one line darker than the other) on the 26th June and then on the 27th and 28th (two lines similar in colour). BUT the instructions say that a positive result means you will ovulate in the next 24-36 hours, so how can it remain positive for 3 days? Do you think it worked properly?

We had sex on all 3 days just to be sure but I did a HPT today and it was negative. The first time we got pregnant it was a surprise but this time it feels like it is taking so long and I am getting frustrated because my cycles seem so out of whack and I'm getting bad cramps leading up to & during my period which I have never had before. Is it normal for cycles to be all over the place following D&C? Does it go back to normal eventually?

Any insights you could give would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I've never had a d&C so I cannot really comment on that but as far as the ovulation predictor kits, they never worked for me. I would always get a negative result, and it was very fustrating trying to compare the darkness of the lines. Regardless of the results, I tried anyways and even though it did take a while for me to concieve I am 34 weeks and 4 days pregnant today. I know its fustrating and I thought I would never concieve but after a natural miscarriage at 5 weeks, I concieved one month later. So just always stay positive, and keep trying.

Occasionally, you can get 3 pos opks. If you catch the beginning of your surge with the 1st one and the tail end of the surge with the last one and have a long surge. I've only had it happen once.

After my D&C last year I didn't bleed for about 6 weeks then everything went back to normal.  As far as ovulation kits....they never worked for me, as well as a saliva microscope.  It showed that I was ovulating constantly.
