Restless Legs Syndrome- related to anxiety problems???

by Nikki, Sep 26, 1999 12:00AM
I have had severe pains in both legs which come on

only at night for as long as I can remember. The pains

make me kick and move my legs for hours before I can fall

asleep. Sometimes I even have the same feeling in my arms.

My Docter has recently diagnosed me with restless legs syndrome.

I was wondering if there could be a connection between this

problem and extreme anxiety. I have been overly anxious and shy

all my life-have you found that more relaxed people tend not

to have this problem??

Nikki,

Are restless legs syndrome and anxiety related?  After reviewing the literature I have found no evidence of a relationship.  Medications in the benzodiazepine class such as Klonopin may be helpful for both conditions if present.  I suggest that you explore this issue further with your personal physician.
