insomnia

Are there any lifestyle changes I could make to eliminate insomnia.

Is there any medication that works well to fight insomnia.

Brett,

The most important thing to do to improve insomnia is to regulate the times you go to bed and wake up each day.  It is also helpful to eliminate sleeping during the day, to avoid exercising or consuming large meals just prior to going to bed.  A reduction in caffiene after lunch with none beyond mid afternoon can also be helpful.  Using the bed for sleep and sex only is very important. Watching TV or reading in bed can be problematic for many people because these activities conditon being alert in bed which is counter-productive to falling asleep.

Many different medications can also be helpful.  Please discuss these issues further with your physician who may decide to prescribe you a sleep medication.

Sincerely,

HFHS MD-JM

dear mr. brett, if i get your posting right, you are asking for solutions. may i suggest to ask for reasons first? e.g. if we take insomnia as a message, how could we possibly translate it to common language? i would be interested in your interpretation, then we could decide what kind of measures may be appropriate. taking pills will easily lead to forms of addiction - and that is'nt really what you want, as you are posting here.

will i read you again?

good luck,

volkmar
