Celexa

I have been on Celexa for a few weeks now.  I have had a VERY hard time achieving orgasm.  Finally,  I was able to and after I did, my vaginal area ached, and my whole body itched for about 5 minutes.  Is this normal, or should I be worried?  Thanks.

Dear Anon,

Celexa (citalopram) is a  newer antidepressant that belongs to SSRI’s ( serotonin-specific reuptake inhibitors). SSRI’s are associated  with a risk of sexual dysfunction. Celexa  was reported to cause difficulties in achieving orgasm in about 1.3% of female depressed patients using celexa. I am unaware of any itching associated with it and if it continues, I would recommend that you consult your physician to rule out any precipitating cause for itching. I would also recommend that you discuss with your psychiatrist about your concerns. I hope this information is helpful to you.

Sincerely

I've been on Celexa for a month.  At first I had a lot of trouble sexually.  I seemed to lose interest, and it was hard acheiving orgasm.  It got better after about 3 or 4 weeks.  Hope it does with you too.
