Does Celexa react with magic mushrooms (shrooms)?

by Jeff Plummer, May 18, 2000 12:00AM
I was recently prescribed Celexa for my depression, and the box says avoid alcohol and MAO inhibitors.  Does anyone know if Celexa has any dangerous side affects with "shrooms".

I'm not a regular drug user, not by a long shot.  And I've already given up alcohol.  But the last time I was really confused about life, I tried mushrooms for the first time and they actually brought me out of it.  I won't explain the spiritual aspects involved but it actually helped to clarify things in my life.

I was recently diagnosed as depressive (unipolar) and put on celexa.  Now I'm considering trying shrooms again for the second time, but I'm not sure of the drug interaction.  Any help would be appreciated.

Jeff,

Celexa, a SSRI antidepressant, has no known drug interactions with "shrooms".  There have not been any studies or reports on this interaction and sincerely doubt there ever will be.  Magic mushrooms are hallucingens that are illegal and should not be used under any circumstance especially if you are being treated for a psychiatric condition.  The danger in this situation is the unknown.  Hope this was helpful.

Sincerely,

If you need the shrooms to alter your mental status then it is obvious the Celexa is not effective for you and doing it's job yet. It take up to two months for some people to feel the effects of the Celexa.

I have been on it for over one month and am still depressed and under anxiety. It doesn't appear to be working for me at all yet.

Don't do shrooms. Like the doctor said they are a hallutionagenic (but he spelled it right) and anything could happen.
