help with paxil

by Amy, Jun 10, 2000 12:00AM
Hi, I have been on paxil for about 6 months now. I am still having really bad sweats & a lump in my throat. The sweats are driving me crazy. It happens where, ever and it gets really bad to where I have sweat running down my face. I have went off paxil and tried Celexa, but that did not work. I am on 20 mg of paxil a day. and take it in the morning. I also take wellburtin 300 mg SR. I take 150 mg in the morning and 150 at night. I cant go off paxil, it has really helped and my life has changed so much from it. Thank you, Amy

You seem to be still suffering from symptoms of anxiety. I would recommend increasing the dose of Paxil to benefit from its antianxeity effects.

Consult your psychiatrist to check if this maybe appropriate for you.

I was on zoloft for about a yr. i then started only taking every couple of days. I would feel dizzy and nauseated when i didnt take one for a while. I now havent taken any in about 2 months. i feel dizzy, lightheaded and sick to my stomach. Is this from being off of the zoloft or something else.     thanks!

To all the dr's,pharms, and smithkline & beecham sales reps, I hope you all burn in hell for ignoring the torcher of paxil withdrawl. When I was presciribed paxil I wasn't told of the extreme withdrawl symptoms. Word of the withdrawl problem had long been heard of at the time of my dr. prescibing paxil. I'd rather go back to the panic attacks than deal with the nausea, diziness, headaches, nervousness, and the added anxiety of not knowing how long this nightmare will last. I've seen some postings about a class action lawsuit being implemented. Well, count me in. E-mail me if you know of any info regarding any treatments for the withdrawls or the lawsuit against smithkline & Beecham. e-mail (***@****)

I know first hand the agony of paxil withdrawal. I have tried several times, each time experiencing the dizziness, nausea, lightheadedness, and returning depression. How frustrating it is to be told to just quit "cold turkey" and wait it out. I've tried tapering off, switching to another ssri, cold turkey. To no avail; i still felt sick. I tried increasing my fluids, it really didn't help. I even went through my last pregnancy on 20mg paxil. baby is fine. as for any help with the problem, i am hoping i can get in touch with an md affiliated with this network who specializes in ocd and other disorders where we don't do the "right stuff" with our seratonin. SSRI= selective seratonin reuptake inhibitor. i recently read about some foods that contain seratonin; bananas tomatoes, plums, avocadoes, pineapples, eggplant, walnuts. I'm  not sure if i will process the seratonin in those foods any better, but it's always worth a shot. i wish you luck, hang in there, there's gotta be something for us.

Personally I like to do alot of a drugs to get rid of my anxiety is that a bad thing?

by re: Sunny, Nov 14, 2000 12:00AM
Now I know having anxiety is a hard thing. I have been suffering from social anxiety for the last 7 years. but there

are other ways you can overcome it. a good psychologist

or psychiatrist. excuse my spelling. would not prescribe you of

paxil without informing you the horrible side effects of it. and if they have prescribed you the paxil within the first two or three visits of your meeting then that psychotherapist or whatever should be shot. because the HORRIBLE WITHDRAWL OF PAXIL . which plainly makes you a SLAVE to the drug. now i know it does help a great bit and i have heard sucess stories of people ganing confidence and overcoming their anxiety. but is it really worth being a slave to the drug? if there is a class action lawsuit against it or someone is starting one let me know.

because id gladly lend support to it because the DRUG companies cannot get away with it! I wish all the people withdrawing from paxil the best of luck and wishes!!!

I was on PAXIL from 1993 to 1996, when I finally decided that I needed to go off, specifically because of the withdrawl problems.  If I missed a single dose for a day (I was on 20mg/day) I got the dizzy spells.  I described this to my doctor and he told me there had been no reports of addicion or withdrawl problems.

All I can say to those of you that are having trouble with withdrawl is to stick it out and switch to another SSRI.  Being addicted to PAXIL is as bad and degrading as any other kind of addiction.

PROBLEMS WITH PAXIL:

To help alleviate unwanted side effects of Paxil, try using it in conjuction with one of the two lastest Anti-depressants(non-SSRI). Either Serzone or Remeron. This approach is actually being used, and does help is some cases. The only problem with the Remeron is that it is a potent antihistamine. Remember, that this approach is to block unwanted side effects, not the increase the antidepressant effect.

Hi, I'm just starting to learn about this drug and would appreaciate as much information on it as well as side effects please. I have a nine year old cousin(male) who was just recently diagnosed with ocd. I live with him and I didn't agree with my aunt for agreeing to give him the medication I was totally against it and was very upset with her. I tried to find informatin on this drug and all I could find was that it produced a chemical called serotonin. My cousin can get really voilent at times and I read up on his disorder and I think he has alot of the symptoms. He takes the pill One hour before going to bed every night I have noticed a change in him. He can tolerate alot more he doesn't get voilent I can think of maybe one time since he started taking it. This weekend while we were out he felt nausiated he said he wanted to vomit well I stopped my car and I went to go take a look at him and he looked very white so white it scared me! Please anyone with more information on Paxil PLEASE  HELP!!! He's only nine years old!!
