Is my short term memory shot?

Here is my problem.  I have been on Zoloft and now I am on Effexor XR.  My problems seem to be, if I go into a room I forget what I went there for.  I will be having a comversation and all of a sudden words that don't belong in the sentence will just pop out.  If I am meeting someone new I get nervous and my speech turns into word salad.  It has killed what little self-esteme I had before and I don't know what to do or who to see.  Could it be that I am depressed or is there another problem I need to get checked out.  Other simptoms are lack of concentration and serous lack of enery and drive.

I really need some advise.

The symptoms you described are not a well known side effect of effexor.  There is a possibility that you are having a neurological problem, and that would be best checked out by your doctor.

It is less likely that depression accounts for what you described, but high levels of anxiety could account for this. Ask your doctor about adding an antianxiety drug along with the effexor.

I had the same symptoms you did and had an MRI revealing a frontal lobe brain tumor.  It was removed three years ago and now I am fine.  Have you had an MRI?  All of your symptoms point to frontal lobe functions.
