Hair loss

I have been dealing with anxiety and depression for 3 years.  After tring lots of meds here my list:  zoloft 150mg, wellbutrin 300mg, and seroquel 200mg.  I have recently tried zyprea with weight gain, respridol with horrible confusion, and geodon with ? side effects.  I started on seroquel.  It seemed to be working great, then my hair started falling out much more than usual.  I also stopped taking birth control pill right around the same time for no particular reason.  My thyroid, estrogen and testosterone levels have checked out.  I have recently started back on the birth control pills.  I stopped taking the seroquel for a few days, tapering, and tried respirdol which made me terribly confused.  Now I am back on the seroquel.  What is making my hair fall out?  I tried on wigs today.  I'm getting despirate.

Hair loss is not a commonly reported side effect of any of the drugs you mentioned, including seraquel. I am afraid that this is not the kind of question a psychiatrist can answer.  You are best talking to a dermatologist.

Hi there,

I had severe hair loss due to stress years ago, before i started taking meds.  Also, if you bleach or perm you hair, it could exaccerbate hair breakage.

good luck

No I dissagree. I take dexedrine and have lost tons of hair and so have a lot of other people I know that have taken dexedrine. In the summer I take a break off dexedrine and my hair grows back thicker and healthier. Try lower dosages and this will help.

I am a hairdresser & have taken both Prozac or Paxil for for 11 years. Hair loss is just one of the side effects of these types of drugs. I've discusseed these issues with both my GP & Dermitologist & unfortunately there is little that can be done about it. People have tried rogaine & had a mixed reveiws of success , however that is an ongoing, expensive & questionable remedy. Basically you have to deal with the hair loss & decide which is more important to you. I went off the drugs for a short while because i loved my once thick hair & ultimately decided that thin hair is a small price to pay for happiness. My husband & children thank me for that decision ;)

Good luck
