Are Dysthimia and neurasthenia the same?

by FARIO, Jan 23, 2003 12:00AM
After years of severe anxiety and depression,I have been exhausted for the last 18 years.Iam now 54.I havent felt deprssed nor anxious nor panicky for many years.Just very tired ,dizzy and with headaches.Only have enough energy to do what i really like, fly fish, and alot less than I would want to have.I took Paxil 3 years ago and helped me for 3 weeks, incresd the dose and helped 3 more weeks. It has never helped again mu Dr. and I decide to stay on the Paxil, for I had too many withdrawal symptoms and could not funnction, etc.I read in the web site of NY school of medicine that in many cases of treatment resistance, they have had very good success adding buspirone 30mg, or pindolol 2.5mg tid,or both to the antidepressant. So,do i have dysthimia or neurasthenia? What are my best Tx options? A new drug like effexor,or adding the buspirone, etc?Sincerely Fario.

YOu can do either...add the Buspirone or switch to another antidepressant like Celexa or Effexor. If you switch to another you can avoid the withdrawal symptoms.  Talk to your doctor about these options...both are equally likely to help.

54!   You are too old to be depressed and anxious.  Don't sweat the small stuff!  Enjoy life!   Get off  those mind altering medications and have a ball.  Life is meant to be lived!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I don't have a worry in the world.  When I don't have my rent.. Oh well.  Rent man gotta wait.

When my car break down..Oh well....Gotta bum a ride.

When i get rejectedd..Oh well, I bounce back

Life is grand!!!!!!
