Frustrated by Sexual dysfunction

Hi doctor,

i had a little anxiety problem and my physician prescribed me buspar for it.as i am aware that most of psychotic drugs cause sexual dysfucntion so i asked him to give me some sexual side effects free medicine and he came up with buspar.

in the mid of febuary this year i started taking it. by the mid of march i experienced loss of libido, atrophied testicals, less or no orgasm, low sperm count and erectile dysfucntion.so i stopped taking it after consulting with my doctor becoz this was making me more anxious. now my doc said that the side effect would wear off itself within a month. its been a month and a half now since i'm not taking this medicione and still my libido and sex drive is not back, although before taking it i had a very strong and powerfull libido and had no erection problems.i got my hormone levels checked and they were normal.only prolaction was a little high (11.500 ng/ml) but it lies within normal range.

my question to u is: should i wait more to see if everything will turn right by itself(i cant wait anymore coz i have a girlfriend and i cant make any more excuses to her about not in mood for having sex) or should i start taking some medicine to get my libido back.in case of medicine, which one is usually prescribed and how long will it take me to get my libido back.

secondly if my sexual function will return back to normal would the graph of my sexual desire and libido be the same as before or would it be decreased..

Your sexual function should return completely to normal if Buspar was the cause. It usually doesn't so, you should be sure that is the cause. I don't know of any good reason not to try some sexual stimulants, so talk to your doctor about that. It would not interfere with returning to normal.

thank you.

If you have a "little" anxiety problem, then maybe you should try some natural fixes before going for the meds (which can be dangerous, and have been known to hurt more than they help) Get active, pick up some hobbies, go out a bit more, and then see how you're feeling. Other than that, I'm pretty sure this sexual problem is all Buspar related. It should return to being normal sooner or later, so don't stress too much over it. I too have been through Hell because of anxiety (and more hell because of medications) I really hope that things work out for you.

:)

God bless.
