Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome

I believe that I have suffered from Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome, as the result of being on certain medicines for depression and psychosis; medicines such as Abilify. It has never been diagnosed, but I just think that the doctors don't know or don't want to tell me. After taking these medicines, I have had tachycardia, cold chills, shortness of breath, extreme thirst and horrible anxiety. Is this Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome? Currently, I have been taking Seroquel for many years and it really helps me. However, after I take it at night, I have an increase in heart rate. Is it damaging my heart? My doctor has tried me on all kinds of meds, but I don't tolerate any of them. Seroquel is the best I have tolerated of the anti-psychotics and I am also on Topomax and Ativan. What should I do? Can you recommend a specialist in my area of Tennessee or Seattle, Wa?

I can't recommend a specific therapist but can tell you how to find one...that is, go to the university medical center, department of psychiatry, and ask for the specialists on their teaching staff. that will assure you the quality you are seeking.
I have bipolar disorder, and I went through every medication there is until I found Seroquel and almost perfectly stabilized. I have been on it for about 5 years. Just like you, when I take my Seroquel at night, my heart rate increases and my heart also palpitates. Two months ago it got so bad that I thought I wouldn't make it through the night. So, I have had to reduce my Seroquel by 1/3, which has resulted in the return of my bipolar disorder. Since I have reduced my Seroquel, my heart no longer pounds at night. I have also found spacing my Seroquel out over a few hours helps as well. So, is my heart now permanently damaged? Let me know what you found out.
