How would you check cranial nerves and reflexes on patients dx with M.S.?
I am working on a school project, appreciate the help. Thanks, Linda


Cranial nerves are tested and reflexes are tested by checking the following
parameters................
Sense of smell : Olfactory nerve
Visual fields, visual aciuty : Optic nerve
Fundoscopy (looking into the back of the eye ): Optic nerve
Reaction of pupils to light : Optic nerve
Eye movements : Oculomotor, Trochlear and Abducens nerves
Facial movements : Facial nerve
Facial sensation : Trigeminal nerve
Taste : Facial nerve and glossopharyngeal nerve
Hearing : Vestibulocochlear nerve
Sensation on the palate : Glossopharyngeal neve
Speech : Vagus nerve
Swallowing assessment : Vagus nerve
(look to see if the palate moves up normally when saying AAAAH )
Tongue movements and strength : Hypoglossal nerve
Turning head to either side and shrugging shoulders: Accessory nerve
