Subject: Re: CSF FINDING In diagnosis of MS, what is the significance of slightly higher than normal total protein in CSF (63 compared to normal 45) when IGG is normal and IGG synthesis rate is normal (0.1) and oligoclonal bands are NOT detectable and protein distribution is normal. Note: WBC was 4 (normal 0-5) and RBC was zero. Thanks for help. = Dear Heda, slight increase in CSF protein is a very non specific finding. Depending on your age, a level of 60 maybe a bit high, maybe just fine. Also some chronic condition such as diabetes mellitus can give a higher than normal protein level in the CSF. The best indicator for MS, although again non specific, are the presence of Oligoclonal band and Ig G level, rate of synthesis, and index. I hope the above information is helpful. Good luck to you. | |
