Question Title: ELAVIL, PAXIL, AND WELLBUTRIN

Forum: Neurology Forum
Topic: Neuropathy

I am a little concerned about the medicines I am taking for Neuropathy and depression. To me it appears excessive to be on 3 different anti-depressants. I take 150 mg. wellbutrin Sr and 40 mg. Paxil - twice a day. Before bed I take 50 mg. or 75 mg. elavil (contingent upon how well I can asleep).
I have heard some horror stories about elavil and paxil. I just want to make sure I am not over-medicated, since you go to one doctor, and he prescribes something, you go to another and he prescribes something else without knowing all that you are taking. Does this look about right? Thanks for the help.

Dear Rose:

Two antidepressants of differnt categories are sometimes used in combination for added benefit in cases with severe depression.

The simultaneous use of three antidepressants, however, does feel a little excessive. Adverse effects may be more prevalent with the use of multiole drugs. I am sure your doctors should be able to trim down your medication list somewhat. It is obviously imperative that you inform each of your treating doctors the exact list of medicines you lake.
