Question Title: Addition to help for Mom

Sorry but I forgot to mention that my mom has been diagnosed with Peripheral Neuropothy and Poly Neuropothy before that. THe only treatment she has received is pain meds and anitdepressants. What I wanted to know is if there is any new breakthroughs or anything elso she can do besides live in the torment she is in now.She has no quality of life and often has no desire to be here because it is such a terrible disease she lives with. It sounds like your mother has several meical probles which have not
been properly sorted out.
There are two types of treatment for peripheral neuropathy, one is to find the underlyoing cause and cure it the neuropathy then should resolve, to do this a number of investigations are required, this involves checking out her thyroid gland, checking for diabetes ( given her history and the presence of ulcers on her feet this should be looked at closely ), lupus and other autiommune diseasea, vitamin deficiencies, and toxic effects of drugs.
If a clear, curable underlying cause cannot be found the only treatment is to control the symptoms with medications, the medications most commonly used in this sitution are antidepresants, not for their antidepressant effects but for their pain killing effects.
A new drug which is very effective in treatingpolyneuropathy is called Neurontin, it has very few side effects, does not interact with other medications and should be strongly considered in your mother’s case.
