Question Title: Hypothyroidism and PPD

Forum: Neurology Forum
Topic: Autism

We have a child that was born hypothyroid. She is now 8 years old and we are concerned about possible deveolpmental problems, like PDD. Please name all possible therapists we might consider (OT, etc.)

I think that the first step would be to define your child's abilities
at this stage by means of comprehensive neuropsychological and physical
evaluations and having established a baseline work from there.
A neuropsychologist would be the obvious first step therefore, depending
on the outcome of this testing you may need to consider a speech therapist.
If learning problems are identified special educational clases will be
required, this can be organised throughthe school district.
If there are problems with physical skills and motor development then
physical and or occupational therapy is required.
If you are concerned about "possible" PPD you should also see a pediatric
neurologist and have this question resolved.
The key issue however is to organise a detailed baseline evaluation,
I have no details of her current status, but you may be pleasantly
surprised and find that her problems are not as severe as you feared.
