Question Title: new surgiacal procedure for arachnoiditisForum: Neurology Forum
| ||||
I have recently heard that there is a new somewhat contoversial surgiacal procedure for arachnoiditis. What can you tell me about this The only information I have available is that which is published in the scientific literature, so I cannot comment on something you saw somewhere else. There have been sporadic reports in the literature of surgical treatment for arachnoiditis, howeverthese reporrts have been mixed in their conclusions. The situation in which thesurgical approach works best seems to be when the the inflammatory process is causing the formation of cysts within the arachnoid layer and thesecysts are creating pressure effects on the spinal cord. in this situation opening the cysts and releiving the pressure obviously will relieve the problem. From my reading of the current literature this is the most viable option, obviously it will not apply to all cases and willl only give relief in carefully selected cases.
