Question Title: Enlarged optic nerves

Forum: Neurology Forum
Topic: Neuromuscular

Thank you in advance for answering my question. I went to the opthalmologist today because of pain in my right eye, which started again last night. I had an episode of this happening last Thurday and Friday after a sharp pain in the right side of my head which lasted about 2 minutes, then the eye started hurting. He told me that my optic nerves were enlarged and needed to see me back in a year. Could a spinal tap that I had done 10 days ago that had a fever up to 101 on the 3rd day lasting 2 days, then low grade fever of 99.5 to 100
have caused this, along with headache coming and going, nausea, grayish vision like you are looking through a camera filter off and on, blurred vision off and on, one episode of just light gray and nothing else in the right eye? If you have any answers, please let me know. The pain and nausea are getting a little annoying. The neurologist told me that my brain was inflamed and that it may take 2 weeks. They took 4 tubes of fluid from my spine, and they said that lowered my spinal fluid, which inflamed my brain. I do have a hx of migraines, and the opthalmologist said that the reason it doesnt feel like a regular migraine, is because the lp set it off. I have other symptoms as dizziness, off balance, numbness, etc. which is why they did the lp. Thank you for your input.

This swelling is more likely to be a consequence of the inflammation in the brain than the spinal tap, spinal taps are in fact used to treat this problem so it may actually have helped a little.
This sort of swelling in your optic nerve could indeed cause the visual phenomena that you describe. Throbbing headaches which are relieved by lying flat are a characteristic of post lumbar puncture headache, so if this is the character of the new hewadache it is probably not due to migraine.
