Question Title: HOW TO BREAK DOWN SCAR TISSUE?

Forum: Neurology Forum
Topic: Strain Injury

hi
i strained my deltoid and forearm years ago and continue to have problem
with scar tissue. Ive done weights to try to break down the scar tissue
but it has only been a help to a certain point. I used to be involved in sports
but because of the problems i had to quit. Is there anyhting else to try
other than surgery to try to break down the scar tissue?

also the formerly injured areas feel as though the nerves there do not
fire like the nerves in the healthy right arm. When swimming or doing even light
weights the arm fatigues much sooner than the right arm. Is this normal
for an area to be quite a bit weaker after a strain compared to the opposite
healthy muscles[in the other arm]?

thanks
mike

Taking your last question first, if your muscle tissue is replaced by scar tissue then you will be correspondingly weaker because of loss of muscle cells.
I do not know the extent of your scaring but there is a technique used by some physical therapists which
this involves the use of ultrasound waves to break down scar tissue.
This is really a rehabilitation rather than neurological issue and I am not very familiar with the technique however I would suggest that you speak to a physical therapist and see if this is suitable in your case.
A discussion of your specific problems and an assessment might be of benefit in your case as you could possibly tailor your exercise to your specific injury and overcome some of the problems.
