Question Title: Is the flu shot safe if U have MS?

Forum: Neurology Forum
Topic: Multiple Sclerosis

Some years back I stopped taking the flu shot as shortly after getting one I had an MS exacerbation. My husband read somewhere (can't recall where) that people with MS should not take the flu shot. It seems I recall something more about live virus vs synthetic or something or other.

This forum is a heaven sent as we get such good advice! I even share them with my Neuro and Psyc. and they have very positive reactions. Keep up the excellent job!

Thanking you in advance and have a super Thanksgiving!

There are no,lagre scale studies in this area, one small study which I
have quoted below concluded that this is a safe procedure in people who
have relapsing remiting disease but if you have a history of an
exacerbation after a previous vaccination then I would proceed with
caution.

Clinical and MRI assessment of disease activity in patients with multiple
sclerosis after influenza vaccination.

" influenza vaccination is a safe procedure in multiple sclerosis.
Nevertheless, it should be used with caution in patients with
active/progressing disease. "
