: Hello,
I was wondering if Massage therapy would benefit a child with Neruofibromatosis? Are there any other modalities that would benifit the child? Do you suggest any herbs? What is the best form of treatment? (ie. conventional, holistic, etc...)
Thanks,
Polly
= Dear Polly, At present our knowledge of treatment for NF-1(neurofibromatosis type one) is limited at present to surgical removal of neurofibromas for cosmetic reasons or for neuroplexiform lesions compressing on nerves within the body causing such symptons as pain and weakness. At the CCF, Dr. B. Cohen is beginnig a pilot study concerning the use of drugs (e.g. thalidomide) to reverse the enlargement and/or growth of cutaneous neurofibromas. In addition, he may have information through other patients he has treated/followed concerning more holistic methods of treatment. Dr. Cohen can be reached at the Dept. of Pediatric Neurology, 216-444-9182. Finally, as an additional source of information on this disorder, you may wish to contact Neurofibromatosis, Inc., Contact person:Mary Ann Wilson at 800-942-6825 or Web site:http://members.gnn.com/NFNIC/page1.htm.
