Question Title: Neck lump

Forum: Neurology Forum
Topic: Headache

I have been seeing a docot recently for headaches.i have tried some meds (muscle relaxers, anti-inlammitory, pain meds)without much success. But I am writing not about that, but when my husband was massaging my neck after doing my neck exercizes, he found a lump. He kept massaging it thinking it might have been a sore muscle, but it has not left in the few days since. it is a firm lump(not hard), is painless and without swelling. I have no rashes or fever. It is located at the base of my skull. I have made an appointment with my docotr, but if you could give me any information as to what i can expect in the exam. thankyou

There are dozens of possible causes for a lump in the neck, hardly of
them are neurological and none can be diagnosed without examination.
You are best taking this to a surgeon rather than a neurologist.
Possibilities include, enlarged lymph glands, cysts, a small bony
prominence, a vertebral spine (a part of the vertebra
which sticks out at the back ) etc.
Without the opportumity to examine the lump I cannot predict what the
outcome of the examination but if it is not tender, inflamed or painful
it is probably not anything serious, I hope this reassures you while you
are waiting.
