Question Title: Husband with numbness and memory lossForum: Neurology Forum

My husband has been experiencing numbness from his left eye to his knee cap. Arm is numb but shoulder area is sore and wakes every 2 hrs in pain. Has had MRI's, EEG, CT scan and a host of blood work. All items negative for MS, Bell's Palsy, Lyme disease etc... He is scheduled for cognitive testing due to short term memory loss but so far the nuerologist has found nothing. Help...any ideas or thoughts of where/what to look at next. His doctor said he thought for certain it was MS and all tests reveal negative. The waiting time to get an appointment with this neurologist is over a month for emergency cases and 2-3 for non emergencies.
Dear Shelley: It is difficult to explain all your husband's symptoms an the basis of one single neurological disorder. The pain and numbness can occur from pinching of nerve roots, spinal cord compression, MS, or even a stroke. The cognitive difficulties usually imply a disorder in the brain, such as strokes, Alzheimer's disease, or other neurodegenerative disorders. I think a neurological assessment is essential before any further testing is done. Despite your worries, I think the wait of several weeks will be quite worthwhile. Good luck!
