Hi, I have MG. I had a thymectomy in May. My question is what causes the insision to keloid? My whole scar is raised and I was told it is keloids. My surgeon did not mention this when I saw her 6 weeks after surgery. It is still very Joanne Thanks for the question Joanne but you really have the wrong group for this question but I'll tell you what I know. Keloids result from an excessive proliferation of collagen following injury to the skin (such as surgery in your case). Dark skinned people are affected more then light-skinned. They are generally thought to be harmless but may be tender, itchy and unsightly in appearance. Treatment have included such things as lasers, injected steroids, retinoic acid and various creams.
