Question Title: Arm and Leg weakness

Forum: Neurology Forum
Topic: Pain

Hi My name is Tammy. I am 27 years old. I just have a couple of questions.

Since Thanksgiving I have had weakness in my face, arms and legs. I have seen
my doctors Nurse Prac. who talked with my doctor and they had decided that it
is some kind of depression and or panic attacks or anixety. She said she
dosen't beleive it is neurological since nothing else has happened to me.

My question is don't you have to be in some sort of situation to have a panic
attack or anxiety? This weakness is all the time and has not gone away. She put
me on Paxil and so far I have not had a crying spell but I still feel the same
as I did before.

Could there be something else wrong with me. She did a CBC, Glucose and TSH
but has not called me back with the results yet.

If you could e-mail me it would be appreciated.

Thank you Tammy

People with Anxiety and depression can actually develop physical symptoms including neurologic ones, but a doctor must always be careful to not quickly attribute a symptom always to anxiety. You'll need an extensive neuroligc history and physical to characterize your weakness and see if any associated problems are present - if you can get a referral to a neurologist, that would be wonderful because they see many problems both disease-related and anxiety-related and can help differentiate.
