I am almost 30, male, and in need of some answers to these questions. Please take a second to listen to my issues and give me feedback, Im beginning to lose patients with the doctors...

It all started about 1-1/2 years ago, feeling low on energy all the time and beginning to gain weight. I went to the doctor and we did the usual, eat right exercise, I even tried redux but that didnt help. We went on this path for a while and he decided to send me to a physiatrist for compulsive obsessive disorder, needless to say they didnt see it and tested me and discovered my fatigue and lack of concentration went back as far as high school, they then said I had add and put me on Ritalin. Well taking a good cns should give you a boost but I keep getting tired.

I went to sleep studies and had no apnea. I do move my legs allot but they swear I dont have rls.

So off to the neurologist I went where I am now on carbidopa to keep my legs from moving and try to improve my quality of rem sleep so Im not fatigued. I guess this is due to the fact Im not getting enough rem because of the twitching legs and the rls I dont have.

Well now I take Ritalin 3x a day at 20 mg not slr. and the carbidopa/levo and I am still really tired all the time, now its to the point where I have been falling asleep at work and driving. I am some what frustrated that all the doctors dont seem to communicate since the neurologist doesnt think I have add, the physiologist doesnt think I have compulsive disorder but thinks I have add, my regular doctor doesnt know really and keeps referring me to specialists, and the guy at the sleep clinic doesnt seem to think I have rls or apnea.

Whats wrong with me...
I really need to get back on track and get this resolved or at least under control.

Thanks.

Rob

Dear Rob:

Maybe I not understanding something. You have been told that you do not get enough REM sleep, yet the sleep physician says that your sleep study is normal. What type of sleep study did you have? Was it the type that you slept overnight and had electrode leads placed on you head and face? I think that you may be fighting two problems, one is the daily fatigue with excessive daytime sleepiness and the other problem may be you sleep. I think that a second opinion from a sleep expert might help things out. Excessive daytime sleepiness can result from a number of problems and I think revisiting these possibilities might uncover the reason for your fatigue. Let us know if we can help. We have some of the best sleep experts in the country. You can call 1-800-CCF-CARE. There are also good places at Stanford, Boston, UCLA, etc. Best of luck.

Sincerely,

CCF Neuro[P] MD
