Question Title: Arachnoid cyst in ventricle

Forum: Neurology Forum
Topic: Arachnoiditis

I have an arachnoid in the right lateral ventricle, I had surgery one year ago and had a ommaya resevoir placed.. It was tapped 2 months ago and 15 cc's of clear fluid was taken out with a needle.. I am taking Prozac and Diamox on a daily basis.. I am feeling alright at present.. my question is .. will I always have to have the ommaya.. will it have to be drained for the rest of my life.. my doctor is somewhat vague when I have ask this question.. he says just to wait and see how I am feeling.. I understand that removing the cyst would be radical and there is no way to know whether or not the cyst will reform.. I know it is benign and has been there a long time.. I have had severe headaches for a very long time. I just want to know what I am going to face in the future.. thank you for your time.

Thanks for your question. I am assuming that the reason you have an Ommaya
reservoir placed is because the arachnoid cyst is intermitently obstructing
the proper outflow of CSF through the foramen of Monroe (from the lateral
ventricle to the third ventricle). If that is your case, then the
removal of the Ommaya is dependent on the resolution of cyst problem. As
you have most likely already discussed with your physicians, your headaches
were probably the result of the ventricular dilatation.

I hope this information is helpful. Best of luck.
