Question Title: Arthralgia,Bone Pain, Neuropathy,Muscle Ache

Forum: Neurology Forum
Topic: Neuropathy

I had a series of events unfold. It began 9 months ago following the use of a Quinolone Antibiotic. First Rash Tingling, then Acute Burning, Bone Pain, Muscle Ache, Joint Pain, Ticks in the Muscles or twitching like disturbances, sensory disturbances. Arthritic conditions to body, especially joints accompanied with feelings that muscles have been punched, painful axonal neuropathy/small fiber/entrapment elbow/knee problems. What ARE Cleveland Clinics Experience on such adverse reactions resolving from these type of medications. Have you had cases before at your clinic that you've treated with success? The manufacturer can offer no help, and the FDA notes on cases having similar reactions (ongoing therapy). They offer no information. What kind of therapy/treatment can be done ? My Physicians while trying to be helpful are perplexed! Much Thanks.

Dear Sam:

None of the neuromuscular experts at the Cleveland Clinic has personally encountered an individual who has had a peripheral neuropathy (sensory or otherwise) as a toxic effect of a quinolone antimicrobial.

We have encountered a few individuals on this forum who have complained of persistent distressing sensory symptoms after use of a quinolone antimicrobial. The possibility of such a toxicity existing cannot be excluded. I am unaware of any concrete medical evidence in the literature to support such a possibility, however.
