Hi - thanks for your response to my questions about bringing my daughter's films to CC. I figured that she would need to be seen but just thought I would ask. If there is the narrowing is this the same as the moya moya syndrome or would it be called something else.? Her doc had put that on the order for the MRA- (" to rule out moya moya- or other vascular abnormality"). I have heard that this is sometimes seen with NF. Thank you again for your time! Dear Ruth: The answer to your question is yes you can see moya-moya in NF-1. But the MRA should have shown what we call "puff of smoke", which is an area of collaterals of blood vessels. Narrowing can be seen in moya-moya as blood vessels constrict, however stricture of an artery when present is a sign that compromise of the CNS is occuring, not moya-moya. The moya-moya shows the puff of smoke and the constriction would be temporary as the vessel is closing due to the malfromation of moya-moya. I hope that this helps. Sincerely, CCF Neuro[P] MD
