I recently posted on Occipital Neuralgia, it was rather lenghty as i wanted to explain everything. The response suggested Tegretol, i have tried it and couldn't take it. Along with various other drugs. Amazingly, the only relieve i can get is from Soma and Valuim. Even then, it doens't get rid of the pain, just lessens it and allows me to sleep or walk, or just think. My question is, I have run out of medication (oral) options, I have also hit my limit on Marcaine nerve blocks, I need a more permanent or long lasting solution to keep my sanity. BoTox is the only thing i have recieved information on from another memeber who posted. Are there other options? Other forms of injections that will last longer than a week (as the marcaine did) that i can do. What are some of the other forms of treatment short of surgery. If i can stay away from surgery that would be perferable. But with this pain, well, surgery is preferable to death and that is what i feel like. So please, if you could point me in the right direction to research various methods of treatment. BoTox i understand, I also want other options. I feel that i am making a court case to my neurologist, he is a really good man, but i feel that i am forming a case to do closing arguments on. I have to get relieve. I have to be able to live my life. If you could just give me some names of various treatments that I can research and discuss with my doctor i would appreciate it. treatments that go beyond the oral medicaition. I welcome any response. my eamil is posted. I feel i am getting desperate, and i suppose i am. but i need relieve, i need my life back. Thank you.

Hi Drew,
this is some of the things I have tried on my patients
Neurontin, a new antiseizure med that is used for chronic pain
Repeated injection of local anasthetic mixed with steroid
Traction
local heat
and of course your usual pain killer including stronger ones to be used sparingly.

Unfortunately the literature does not speak well for surgery (sectioning the nerve), which is rarely successfull and may result in a more disabling condition : anesthesia dolorosa
Good luck.
