Subject: Re: Panic Disorder, Nerves of Something Serious I am getting very frustriated. In November I develop a trying to catch my breath problem. I seem to have a spasm that I can't catch my breath. I have been to the physican twice and he stated that I have bad nerves and panic disorder. Last night I went to bed and about an hour I woke up, my feet and hands were sweating and I felt anxious but I don't know why? This is really scarring me. The doctor gave me Ativan but I was told that was for before surgerical procedures. I am really afraid that something is wrong with my heart or I have a brain tumor. The only test the doctor ran was for my thyroid. I really need your help or response from others who may have these symptoms! Dear Michelle, From your description, it sounds as if you may be experiencing panic attacks. Typically, the diagnosis is one of exclusion. A good physical and neurological exam is important. If you are having alot of cardiac(heart) symptoms (such as heart racing, skipped beats, etc) perhaps an EKG or a holter moniter would be helpful. A tumor will usually cause some focal neurological symptoms and probably would not cause episodes like you are describing. Ativan is a medication that is in the same class as valium. It is frequently used for anxiety attacks. I would try the medication to see if there is a decrease in the frequency of the attacks.Discuss some of the other options with your doctor. If you are interested in getting an evaluation at CCF call 1-800-CCF-CARE. Good Luck. | |
