Subject: Re: Dantrium My Neuro has put me on Dantrium? I have had muscle aches and elevated ck levels for some time now.I have a few questions 1 Elevated Ck levels what causes this? 2 Muscle fibulations under the skin what causes this? 3 muscle biopsy findings angulated muscle fibers? what causes this? 4constant muscle pains, burning like I just finished working out? 5Now On blood tests elevated Lactate 20 in a 3-12 range and elevated folate serum 20 in a 3 as a normal range? what does this mean. I have had a liver biopsy that revaled a fatty liver? Can this cause all these problems. I also have a problem with a salivary infection in my mouth have had this for 2 months, they told me to take vitamins.I take oscal, vit e and zinc.Nothing seem to relieve this muscle problem and salivary infection. What tests rule out MS,LUPUS,RUM aut.I just want to see whats next.I had all the blood test you could think of,all the GI tests also, muscle biopsy and emg. What does an emg rule out. Sorry for so many questions but I am at a loss as to whats going on. Thank you for your time and effort and mostly for this forum Dan
Dear Dan: Sorry to hear about your problems. Dan, I think you need a second opinion. Fibromyalgia usually does not give you elevated CK values or an elevated lactic acid level. What did the EMG show? The EMG should show you that either the problem is in the muscle, where the nerve interacts with the muscle, or in the various nerves to and from the muscle. The biopsy would suggest that you have a neuromuscular type of problem (if it was stained with esterase) or if not stained with esterase then a muscle problem. The finding of increased lactic acid and CK would both indicate a muscle or neuromuscular junction problem. The muscle twitching under you skin indicates muscle problem in which the nerves to the muscle are not functioning correctly and the muscle is firing on its own. The fatty liver may or may not be involved in your disease process. Your process does not sound like MS, but a CSF with oligoclonal banding and a MRI with multiple bright spots on T2 would be diagnostic for MS. Your symptoms also do not Sincerely, CCF Neuro MD
