Question Title: Neurovagus

Forum: Neurology Forum
Topic: Charcot Marie

I have Charcot-Marie-Tooth and recently I have had a neurovagus episode in which I blacked out. The next day I had extreme pressure bands around my knees and elbows and numbness in my lower legs and hands. This continued for three days and has left me with noticably weaker extremities. Will this continue to weaken my muscles or do you think they will recover?

The type of event you mention (a vasovagal attack ) is a brief transient event which causes fainting due to the activity of the vagus nerve which slows down the heart rate and drops the blood pressure. There is no direct relationship between the function of the vagus nerve and the sort of symptoms you mention
so I do not think there is any possibility that this repersents the start of any sort of progressive process.
I do not have sufficient information to say what was the underlying cause of these symptoms which followed the vasovagal attack but I do not think that this is the basis for the development. If this weakness continues you need to be re-evaluated to clarify the underlying cause of this exacerbation in your problems, this might require EMG testing but the first step would be a detailed neurological examination.
