Subject: Re: Sarcoidosis and Neuro Involvement Topic Area: Neurology - GeneralPosted by Sharon on July 16, 1999 at 09:49:27I was diagnosed several years ago with Sarcoidosis. In the past year I have been having problems with my eyes. I see blue or white flashes out of my right eye, when I look at someone thier negative image remains when I look away, almost a ghost like image. I can stop at a red light and then I will see spots of red for a few moments afterward, much like you would see when a camera flashes in your eyes, but for longer periods of time, and this happens with almost any bright color. I have a head pain, not ache, in the back right side of my head that comes and goes which can be quit severe at times. Recently I started to feel a tingling in my right arm, almost like cold water going over it. I have seen an eye doctor who refered me to a neurologist. The neurologist did a spinal, MRI and EMG of my arm, all negative. He put me on verapamil for several weeks which brought no relief. Now he is suggesting I see a neuro-opthamologist? Is this the right next step? Could this be Migraines or sarcoidosis related. Any input would be valued. Thank You!
Posted by CCF Neuro[P] MD, RPS on July 17, 1999 at 11:58:41 Dear Sharon: Sorry for the problems, I have answered your question but it seems that for some reason the system lost it (otherwise all the other answers would not be Re: in front of the postings). If you were developing neurosarcoid (a rare entity, but not impossible) there would be changes in the MRI, especially since you have visual changes. I would see the neuro-opthalmologist and see what he/she says. There could be several other things to cause this, seizure activity or migraine. I think the latter may be a possibility and would pursue this angle. Verapamil is a fair migraine medication but not what we usually use as a first line medication initially. See what the neuro-opthalm. has to say and then I would see if this is atypical migraine, or occipital neuralgia. Sincerely,
