: The 83-year-old aunt of a friend of mine who isn't online has been
diagnosed with CNS vasculitis. She is aphasic, being treated with
cytoxin. The first question is, what is the usual outcome of CNS
vasculitis in such a patient? The second question is, is Dr. Leonard
Calabrese currently associated with the Cleveland Clinic, and is
he an expert on vasculitis? Thank you for any information you can
provide.

Dr Calabrese is currently working with the Cleveland Clinic and works
in the rheumatology department which has considerable experience with
vasculitis.
As regards prognosis or outcome this is very variable and depends
largely on the underlying diagnosis or type of vasculitis.
In researching your question I found an article co-aothored by
Dr Calabrese and Dr Furlan (head of the Adult Neurology Section
here at the Cleveland Clinic)in which they make the comment that the
diagnosis of CNS vasculitis includes many different underlying
disorders and that the outcome is better overall than had previously
been thuoght.
If you wish to make an appointment with either of the above physicians
The number for an appointment with Dr Calabrese is (216) 444 5632
or Dr Furlan (216) 444 5559.
