: Im dealing with an L5-S1 lumbar disk herniation, with radiculopathy down middle of left butt area. Im curious, as I dont know his philosophy. What your thoughts are on 1.recovery issues. 2. how long is one usually out of work after such a surgery. I am very active.. completely believe in PT. and would like to get moving as soon as possible, But knowing myself dont want to push it and start too soon ___ Dear Tom, At our institution patients may begin walking the day of surgery. Some patients When to return to work depends on the type of work a patient does. Generally Speak to your surgeon about his particular recommendations after surgery. Good luck.
