: After 20 years of practice in psychiatry, I have come upon the first case of OCD that has been unresponsive to medical treatment. I would like to refer the patient for evaluation or whether cingulotomy might be of some help. Please tell me how to proceed with this. The family is skeptical, and want to know as much about the procedure as possible, especially possible complications or side effects of this procedure before they committ themselves to further explore this option. Please send me as much information as you can. Thank you Jim Donley MD Thanks for the question Jim and sorry about the delay. I spoke with our neurosurgeons and we have treated patients with OCD with cingulotomy and gamma knife. I'm sorry but I do not have literature to send you. Our surgeons do, however, require two pyschiatrists to sign off that the patient has medically intractable OCD. I recommend they come for a consult and have all their questions answered.
