Question Title: Is there a link between CIDP and pneumonia shot?Forum: Neurology Forum
| |
I was diagnosed with CIDP (chronic inflammatory demylenating neuropathy the winter of 1995. My original symptoms have disappeared but I am left with a constant numbness of my arms, hands, feet and legs. Originally I was given intravenous and tegratol but these were abandoned when I did not respond to the intravenous and the medication made me ill. I have heard somewhere in my past that there was some kind of an association between CIDP or just neuropathy and receiving a pneumonia injection (which I did have almost immediately before my symptoms began). If you have no knowledge of this, perhaps one of the readers will recall information to this effect. I thank you so much! Dear Terri, There were several cases of Gullian Barre Syndrome or acute demylinating inflammatory polyneuropathy (if the general course lasts longer than four weeks it is considered the "chronic" form of this disease or CIDP) that were associated with the A/New Jersey (swine) influenza vaccine. I reviewed the current literature as well; there were no recent cases of AIDP/CIDP reported in the last 20 years other than those I mentioned.
