Question Title: Alternative treatment

Forum: Neurology Forum
Topic: Parkinson

I have been researching this disease through the internet and came across some research about using a combination of vitamins and physical therapy. I am a registered nurse and know alot about the medical treatment of this disease but may need to look farther for some relief. Has any one heard of some other treatments outside of taking medicines?

Physical therapy is an important part of the management (not the cure) of
Parkinsons disease and all patients should be assessedby a physical therapist
in order that physical abilities, strength, flexibility be maximized.
The underlying disorder is due to death of dopamine producing cells in the
brainstem, since this has never been proven to be due to vitamin deficiency
there is no known scientific rationale for the use of vitamin supplements.
The main focus of research in this area outside the use of medications is
the use of surgery, pallidotomy which places surgical lesions deep in the brain
to interupt nerve pathways which cause disabling symptoms.
